Abstract

PURPOSE: To operate an inexpensive differential relay at high speed by making the subwinding terminal produce a sufficient residual voltage when the main winding is short-circuited.
CONSTITUTION: When voltage is applied to the terminal of winding 1, the iron cores 12, 13 are excited through the windings 8, 9. The cross-sectional areas of both the iron cores are the same, the number of turns of the winding 9 and coupling winding 10 is N and that of the coupling winding 11, main winding 2 and subwinding 3 is 2N respectively, each flux of the iron cores 12, 13 is a half of the flux ϕ generated by the voltage of winding 9. In this way, when the lead wire of the master winding 2 is short-circuited between F-F', a short-circuit current is fed from the primary winding 1 through the windings 8W11. A flux of (0.4W0.6) ϕ is generated in the winding 9 by the short-circuit current and leak impedance of the respective windings, it is eliminated in the core 12 by the short-circuit current and passes through the iron core 13. Since the subwinding 3 that produces a normal voltage at ϕ/2 in normal time produces a residual voltage of 0.8W1.2 times as much as the normal voltage by the additional flux, the differential relay 6 can sufficiently be operated.
