Abstract
PURPOSE: To secure the safety of a mechanical seal by forming grooves on the facing surfaces of sealing rings relatively rotating, and rotating sealing fluid by means of the rotation of the sealing rings to thereby pressurize the fluid to thus form fluid membrane at the facing surfaces so as to prevent the foreign material from entering into the facing surfaces.
CONSTITUTION: Sealing rings 3, 3' are engaged via an O-ring within housings 1, 1', respectively, and provided at the sides thereof with surfaces 6, 6', respectively. The surfaces 6, 6' are made contact with each other to thus form facing surfaces S. Radial grooves 7, 7' are formed on the searing rings 3, 3' within the inner periphery of the facing sufaces S. When the housing 1' rotates while the housing 1 is not rotated, the ring 3' rotates so that the sealing fluid communicating with the inner periphery of the facing surfaces S is rotated by the centrifugal force in the groove 7' to thereby form a fluid membrane within the facing surfaces S to prevent the fluid from entering into the facing surfaces S.
