Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the entry and solidification of molten metal into nozzle orifice and the sintering of packing material by packing the granular packing material of the specified grain size into the nozzle orifice for controlling the flow of molten metal and further covering the upper part of the packing material with covering material and heat-setting the same. CONSTITUTION:The packing material composed of carbon grains, iron grains, etc. of grain sizes 3.0-0.1mm, particularly 1.5-0.3mm is packed in the nozzle orifice for flow control disposed in the bottom of a molten metal vessel such as ladle or tundish. And further the upper part of this packing material is covered with covering material of silica sol, alumina sol, etc., after which it is heat-set. The charging amount of the covering material of this case is preferably such an amount at which it covers the entire surface. In general, the amount at which it spreads at thicknesses of 10-20mm over the entire surface is used. Next, this covering material sets at the atmospheric temperature of 400 deg.C or more in the ladle, thereby forming the sintered layer on its surface layer part. Even when molten metal stagnates long in the vessel, the natural opening rate of the nozzle may be considerably improved.
