Abstract

PURPOSE:To dispense with a capacitor for charge and discharge, by using a metal- coated insulated electric wire of prescribed distributed capacity as at least part of a line for connecting the high-voltage winding of an ignition coil to the discharge electrodes of a plasma ignition plug. CONSTITUTION:When a contact 4a of an interrupter 4 is opened by a cam 4b rotated synchronously with a rotary electrode 5a of a distributor 5, a high voltage is induced in the secondary winding 3b of the ignition coil 3 and gradually raised. When the high voltage has exceeded a prescribed level, discharge is caused between the rotary electrode 5a and fixed electrode 5b of the distributor 5 to apply a high voltage between the discharge electrodes 6a, 6b of the plasma ignition plug 6. As a result, energy corresponding to the applied high voltage is stored by the distributed capacity of a coaxial cable 8. When the high voltage applied between the discharge electrodes has exceeded a predetermined level, spark discharge is caused between the electrodes, namely, the stored energy is released from the coaxial cable 8.
