Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a catalytic reactor which is capable of increasing the rate of mass transfer and of decreasing loss of draft passing through catalyst layers, by making gas flow along the surfaces 5 of many flat catalyst layers arranged in parallel with each other at intervals which are in proportion to the thickness of the catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: Exhaust gas, with addn. of NH3, admitted through a gas inlet 2 to a reactor 1, which is packed with catalyst blocks 4, is denitrated while passing through between the catalyst blocks 4, and is discharged through a gas outlet 3. The catalyst block 4 is constituted of many catalyst plates 6 arranged in parallel with each other in catalyst-supporting frames 5 at intervals 7 by means of spacers 8. The exhaust gas flows in the direction 9 in parallel with the surfaces of the catalyst plates 6. The width B mm of the interval 7 selected so as to satisfy an equation B=3.1 T+(1.9W12) gives high reaction ratio, and decreases the draft resistance of the catalyst layers to a minimum. In the equation, T is 1 mm≤T≤3 mm, showing the thickness of the catalyst plate.
