Abstract

PURPOSE:To regulate Mn in undeoxidized steel without yielding C in the steel by adding a high carbon Fe-Mn alloy of below a predetermined grain size to the steel during or after discharge. CONSTITUTION:A high carbon Fe-Mn alloy of an average grain size below 9.0 mm is added to undeoxidized steel during or after discharge. Since the alloy is of small grain size and light weight, it does not deeply penetrate into the molten steel and the whole Fe-Mn is rapidly heated with heat of the molten steel to carry out rapid reaction. Accordingly, the steel is subjected to little recarburizing, and the carbon contained in the alloy is converted into CO gas with oxygen in the undeoxidized steel and dispersed. Thus, the steel manufacturing yield is enhanced, and regulation of Mn can be carried out without recarburizing.
