Abstract
PURPOSE: To construct a hydroelectric power plant comparatively easily and inexpensively by arranging its headrace along on the dam wall limiting the upper tank and equipping a vacuum pump to fill the headrace with water at the essential top part of the headrace.
CONSTITUTION: A low head hydroelectric power plant 20 is composed of a dam wall 21, a tublar water turbine 23, and a headrace 24 extended from an upper tank 22 to the water turbine 23, which is firm fixed on a base 25 like a concrete block. The headrace 24 is extended from the inside of the upper tank 22 to the water trubine 23 trailing on the dam wall 21, and a vacuum pump 34 and a vacuum breaking valve 35 are equipped on the headrace part above the upper tank 22, that is, the top part 24a of the headrace on the dam wall. The pressure inside the headrace is reduced by the operation of the vacuum pump 34, and the headrace is fully filled with water by means of siphonage.
