Abstract

PURPOSE: The simultaneous reaction between polyalkylene glycol, diisocyanate and epoxy resin is conducted to produce urethane-modified eposy resins with outstanding stability free from increase in viscosity and gelation.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture of (a) a polyalkylene glycol of an average molecular weight of about 1000 as polypropylene glycol, (b) a diisocyanate as 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate and (c) a liquid bisphenol-A type epoxy resin having less hydroxyl group content and a molecular weight of less than 400 and/or a diol glycidyl ether type epoxy resin as neopentyl glycol diglycidyl ether type epoxy resin in a molar ratio of 1.5-2.5 hydroxyl groups to 1 insocyanate group is reacted in an inert gas at about 80-120, preferably 95-105°C to produce said resin.
