Abstract
PURPOSE: To easily manufacture a particle dispersion type metallic material in which particles are uniformly dispersed, by adding composite material constituting particles such as metal carbide to a molten metal while stirring molten slag on the metal.
CONSTITUTION: Molten metal 2 such as molten stainless steel and molten slag 3 are formed in mold 7 using consumable electrode 1 by electro-slag melting. An inert gas such as Ar gas is sprayed upon slag 3 from gas spray pipe 9 to stir the slag. At the same time, particles 5 of other metal, carbide, etc. are sprinkled from supply pipe 6. Since slag 3 is always stirred, the particles added are immediately shifted into the slag and then uniformly dispersed in molten metal 2. Thus, the particles added disperse in metal 2 in a high yield without showing a short between electrode 1 and mold 7 on the slag surface, giving a superior particle dispersion type metallic material.
