Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate expansion and contraction of a mandrel diameter by means of monolithic thrust member having a plurality of wedge-shaped sections inserted between a segment and a mandrel shaft in such a manner as to operate axially.
CONSTITUTION: A segment 2 which is divided into four sections or so is arranged on the periphery of a mandrel shaft 1. A thrust member 3 having a plurality of wedge-shaped surfaces is inserted between the segment 2 and the mandrel shaft 1. When the member 3 is allowed to reciprocate axially, the segment 2 moves radially. With such an arrangement, the member 3, the segment 2 and mandrel shaft 1 are brought into surface contact with each other, thus eliminating play even after long time service. In addition, since the monolithic construction enhance the rigidity of the member, thereby ensuring sufficient torque transmission between the mandrel shaft 1 and the segment 2 can thoroughly performed.
