Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable a molten Ni alloy contg. more than a specific amt. of Ti and/or Al to be discharged in the air by covering a flux onto the surface of the alloy in a hermetically sealed smelting furnace kept under vacuum or an inert gas atmosphere and discharging the alloy into a ladle housing a flux.
CONSTITUTION: A flux which expands in vol. owing to heat of molten metal, exhibiting diffusibility and heat insulating property is scattered on the surface of a molten Ni alloy contg. more than 0.5 wt% of Ti and/or Al in a hermetically sealed smelting furnace kept under vacuum or an inert gas atmosphere to cover the surface with the flux. The alloy is then discharged in the air into a ladle in which the same flux is put in advance so that the surface of the alloy received in the ladle is covered with the flux. In spite of discharge in the air, the alloy does not directly contact with the air, and oxidation of the active metals such as Ti and Al is prevented. Accordingly, it is unnecessary to make the equipment large and complex.
