Abstract

PURPOSE: To permit constant groove cutting regardless of the strain of tack welding and cylindrical tube even in case where flame gauging operation is made for the seam of cylindrical tube by the procedure in which the feed speed of electrode bar is kept constant by an electrode bar feeder and molten metal is blown off by a compressed gas jet.
CONSTITUTION: The flame gauging apparatus body 26 and the electrode bar feeder 27 are made to come near the cylindrical tube 13 and then the pressure welding roller 28 is brought into contact with the outer periphery of the cylindrical tube 13. The distance between the tip of the torch 55 and the cylindrical tube 13 is kept constant by the expansion range of the spring 25. An electric arc is generated between the tip of the electtode bar 56 and the cylindrical tube 13, whereupon the rotating cylindrical tube 13 is melted by heating and at the same time an incombustible compressed gas is supplied to the hose 30 to blow off molten metal. In flame gauging operation for the seam of the cylindrical tube 13, groove can be cut having the same depth as the portion without tack welding even if the tip of the electrode bar 56 and the tack welded portion are diametrically opposite each other.
