Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an electron gun which has a sufficiently small astigmatism, by reducing the focal length of the lens system in the preceding stage which constitutes the electron gun.
CONSTITUTION: A singls-beam type electron gun is constituted by cathode K, an electrode from first grid G1 to fifth grid G5, lenses 1 and 2, etc., and high- voltage anode voltage VA is applied to grids G3 and G5, and focus voltage VF sufficiently lower than VA is applied to G4. Thus, decelerating preceding-stage electron lens 1 is constituted by grids G3 and G4 and accelerating succeeding-stage lens 2 is constituted by grids G4 and G5, and at this time, diameter D1 of each opposite end part of gride G3 and G4 is difined as smaller than diameter D2 of each opposite end part of G4 and G5. That is, when D1/D2 is denoted as K, K<1 is defined; and the length of the small diameter part and the large diameter part is denoted as l1 and l2 respectively, l1>D1 and are l2 > D2 are defined. Then, the length or grid G4 is denoted as l, and relation l>(D1+D2) is given, thereby improving astigmatism.
