Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain Co-contg. iron oxide ferromagnetic powder for recording of magnetic recording media by dispersing iron oxide magnetic powder in a soln. of CoCl2 in a high b.p. ether such as diethylene glycol monoethyl ether, followed by heating.
CONSTITUTION: Iron oxide magnetic powder such as needle-like γ-Fe2O3 powder is dispersed in a soln. of CoCl2 in a high b.p. ether such as diethylene glycol monoethyl ether, followed by heat treatment at 160W250, pref. 180W200°C. Thus, modified magnetic powder is obtd. having a uniform shape, high coercive force and good dispersibility.
