Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove phosphorus selectively from iron ore etc., by gas phase dephosphorization of the ore heated by plasma arc to a specific temp.
CONSTITUTION: An ore (e.g., iron ore) contg. not more than 25 wt.% CaO, with a ratio CaO/(SiO2+Al2O3) not larger than 5, is subjected to spray refining at 1,600°C or higher. For the atmosphere is used Ar, He, N2, CO, H2, hydrocarbon, or a mixt. of these substances.
