Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a highly active CO purging catalyst element for oxidizing CO in the air to CO2 at ordinary temp., which element is obtd. by supporting platinum group metals on a hardened product, as carrier, consisting of a predetermined wt. ratio of activated carbon powder, potassium carbonate and lime aluminate contg. a specific amt. of CaO.
CONSTITUTION: A hardened product as carrier is prepared consisting of 10W50wt% of activated carbon powder, 5W15wt% of K2CO3 and the balance lime aluminate contg. 15W35wt% of CaO. The carrier is then impregnated with a mixed aq. soln. of chloroplatinic acid and palladium chloride, and the Pt and Pd salts are reduced to Pt and Pd with a reducing agent such as H2 gas or hydrazine to obtain a CO purging catalyst element. Using the catalyst element, CO of environmental concn. can be purged efficiently at ordinary temp. even in the presence of steam.
