Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide an ignition system, which is provided with a first high voltage regulator for causing a discharge electrode to effect momentary discharge and a second high voltage generator for permitting sustained discharge, thus ensuring reliable ignition of air-fuel mixture with the combined effects of both the discharges caused by these generators. CONSTITUTION:This ignition system comprises a first high voltage generator 30 for impressing a high voltage of about 10 kV upon an ignition plug 21 periodically and independently of the engine rotation and causing momentary discharge from a discharge electrode 21 of the ignition plug 21 and a second high voltage generator 40 for impressing a high voltage of about 2 kV upon the ignition pulg 21 and causing sustained discharge from the discharge electrode 22 of the ignition pulsg 21. The first high voltage generator 30 comprises an oscillating circuit 31, a wave shaper circuit 32, a switching circuit 33, an ignition coil 34 and a diode 35, and the second high voltage generator 40 comprises a DC-DC converter 41, a synchronous switch 42 and a diode 43.
