Abstract

1414920 Transistor oscillators BENDIX CORP 19 Feb 1973 [25 Feb 1972 (2)] 8070/73 Heading H3T [Also in Division F1] An electrical pulse generator particularly for an ignition system for gas turbine engines comprises input terminals for connection to a source 3 of D.C. electrical energy and a transformer 30 having its secondary winding 32 connected to output terminals and its primary winding 31 connected across the input terminals by means of an oscillator circuit arranged periodically to interrupt current flow from the input terminals through the primary winding, the oscillator circuit comprising first and second semiconductor means 20, 10 each having a control electrode for controlling current flow between two current carrying electrodes, the current carrying electrodes of the first semiconductor means 20 being connected in series with the primary winding 31 of the transformer, one of the current carrying electrodes of the second semiconductor means 10 being connected to the control electrode of the first semiconductor means and the control and other current carrying electrodes of the second semiconductor means being so connected in a current regulator circuit as to provide when the second semiconductor means 10 is conducting a substantially constant current at the one current carrying electrode of the second semiconductor means substantially independently of voltage variations at the input terminals. In a modification (not shown) the current regulator circuit comprises a Zener diode connected between the control electrode of the second semiconductor means and the input resistor of the other current carrying electrode of the second semiconductor means. The current regulator circuit may comprise a switching circuit connected to the control electrode of the second semiconductor means. The switching circuit may comprise a transistor the conductive and non-conductive states of which are controlled by the voltage across the first semiconductor means.
