Abstract

PURPOSE:To control direct light with light signal by disposing a negative resistance element along semiconductor surface. CONSTITUTION:The light power having been propagated by the mode having existed up to the region where an optical quide 2 and a negative resistance element 3 adjoin is radiated to the outside of the light guide 2 by way of this negative resistance element 3 in the region where the optical guide 2 adjoins to the negative resistance element 3 and therefore there is no more light power to be propagated to the exit end face 5 of the optical guide. Hence, the light power having propagated in the optical guide 2 and being sent to the exit end face 5 may be controlled by the light signal applied to the negative resistance element 3.
