Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance greatly the removability of scale by keeping the surface temperature of steel at more than 1000 deg.C in removing the scale on the steel surface by a high pressure water jet descaler prior to the rolling of steel by a hot rolling mill. CONSTITUTION:When steel is subjected to a hot rolling treatment, the primary scale on the surface of steel is removed by the high pressure water jet descaler 6 prior to entry into the hot rolling mill 2. The surface temperature of steel coming into the descaler 6 is kept at more than 1000 deg.C in order to raise greatly the removability of scale. The steels such as aluminium-killed steel, silicon-killed steel, etc., whose scale is difficult to remove, are inserted into the heating furnace 5 in a F row, nearest to the descaler 6, covered with the heat insulating cover 7, heated by the heater 8, or suppressed the cooling of steel as much as possible by hastening the speed of roller table. Thus, the steel kept at more than 1000 deg.C is sent into the descaler to completely remove scale.
