Abstract

PURPOSE: To make one rotary machine serve a double purpose for a start-up motor and an AC exciter for exciting field winding by making the rotor winding of AC exciter a 3-phase winding and driving it as an induction motor at the starting-up of synchronous motor.
CONSTITUTION: At the starting-up of the synchronous motor 3, the switch 15 is closed to supply power to the rotor winding 5c of the AC exciter 5 with 3-phase winding, while in the circuit of the rotor 5A, the self-turn off type semiconductor 13 is turned off to keep the thyristor for making excitation under a turn-off condition. Then, open loop is formed to start the induction motor, and then if it is accelerated up to near synthronous speed, normal operation can be obtained by supplying the AC current 1 to the synchronous motor 3, opening the switch 15, and closing the switch 17. Thus, no current flows in the rotor winding and field winding of the synchronous motor 3 at the time of start-up, thus eliminating various troubles caused by starting current.
