Abstract

PURPOSE:To allow a rotor to be fully cooled when damping is not applied and to display its capacity to the full when damping is applied for stopping in a sort time, by using alternately a linear motor for starting and an induction motor for operating when damping a rotary machine having major inertia. CONSTITUTION:When starting damping, firstly a power source of an induction moror for operation 2 connected with a rotary machine 1 having major inertia through a belt 5 is shut to be regeneratively operated with a linear motor for starting 7 connected with the rotating shaft of an induction motor as a generator for making the speed lower down to N1. At this point of time the power source of the linear motor is shut to leave it as it is for a while, and opposite phsae damping is applied with the induction motor 2 connected in the Y connection system at the point of time of the speed N2 to shut the power source of the induction motor 2 at the point of time of the speed N3 when the temperature of rotor of the induction motor 2 reaches a fixed value. Subsequently signal-phase damping is applied by the linear motor 7, of which the rotor 8 has been fully cooled, to shut the single phase damping near the speed N4 for leaving it as it is to be stopped.
