Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent formation of fine transverse crack on the surface of back bead, by using back flux, which is used for flux-copper backing one-side arc welding and contains a combination of N and an element which forms nitride.
CONSTITUTION: As the back flux for flux-copper backing one-side welding is used a flux of the following composition: In addn. to the ordinary flux components, e.g., metallic oxides such as SiO2, MgO; metallic carbonate such as CaCO3; or basic component such as CaF2 or Fe-Mn, are used one or more kinds of 1W15% nitride-forming elements such as Zr, Ti, Al, Ta, Si, V in the form of powdered pure metal or alloy. Nitrogen-contg. Fe-Mn, nitrogen-contg. Fe-Cr or powder of of nitrate such as NaNO3, KNO3 0.05W0.5% as N are added in addn. No transverse crack is caused because the nitrides of the above-mentioned metals crystallize in back bead during welding, acting as solidification nuleuses, and make the solidified structure uniform.
