Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an excellent plating covering a wide temperature range and a wide current density range by adding of an alkali and silicofluoric acid or a silicofluovide compound and nitric acid to a plating both at a proper ratio.
CONSTITUTION: A black chrome plating liquid is prepared containing 200 to 700 g per 1l of chromic and anhydride which does not contain sulfuric acid, 10 to 100 g of alkali (sodium hydroxide), 0.2 to 1.5 g of a silicofluovide acid or silicofluovide compound, 0.5 to 10 g of nitric acid or nitrate. The addition of slilcofluovide acid or silicofluovide compound to the plating bath can facilitate the separation of chrome oxide thereby expanding the current density range of producing black plating. This allows production of a black plating at a normal temperature at a cathode current density 2 to 3A/dm2. Thus, a high current efficiency of about 10 percent is available at a chathode current density of 30 to 40A/cm2. In addition, the current efficiency increases with the increase in the electrolysis time.
