Abstract

PURPOSE:To compensate the scanning irregularity resulting from the inclination of the reflecting plane of a rotary polygonal reflecting mirror by arranging an optical deflector between a beam expander and a light source so that the advancing direction of a light may be deflected in accordance with the positional shift of the scanning line. CONSTITUTION:In an apparatus for scanning an optical beam with the use of a rotary polygonal reflecting mirror 34, a galvano mirror 32 is interposed between a light source 31 and a beam expander 33 such that it can rotate. The desired compensation is carried out by deflecting the galvano mirror 32 so that the beam incident upon the polygonal reflecting mirror may be deflected in a plane nrmal to the scanning direction. The rotations of the mirror 32 are accomplished such that the scanning line by the mirror 34 is located so that the beam is deflected in a necessary guantity according to the shift from the reference position.
