Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide an apparatus capable of taking definite finger marks simply by putting fingers on a glass plate and detecting optical change on a boundary surface on the opposite side of the surface to which pre-polarized light beam is projected, through polarizing filters, as change in the beam of reflected light. CONSTITUTION:Light beam 30 polarized by polarizing filter 3 is projected on detection surface 7 of glass plate 4 with a proper incident angle. Air layer 12 is formed in recessed portion 9 on the surface of finger, and it is as if there is no finger on the glass plate 4, so that light beam 30 is reflected as reflection light beam 42, without causing any deflection. At a projection 10 of the finger, on the other hand, reflection factor is lowered at detection surface 7, and light beam projected to moisture layer 11 is also reflected on the surface 8 of finger. The reflection light 41, however, is made irregular by the disturbance to polarization due to irregular reflection and interference caused by the moisture layer 11, and quantity of light is reduced. Resultantly, reflection light beam 50 is obtained through polarizing filter 5 disposed perpendicularly to the reflection light beam 42, light at the portion corresponding to the recess 9 on the surface 8 of finger and dark at the portion corresponding to the projection 10. In the above arrangement, if reflection preventing film is applied on surface 6 for preventing reflection on light 32, change in polarization can be detected more distinctly.
