Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare chondroitin sulfuric acid, by treating raw cockscombs with protease, thereby selectively and quantatively dissolving hyaluronic acid without degeneration, and extracting the residue with an aqueous solution of a neutral salt.
CONSTITUTION: Cockscombs are shredded, and without defatting and denaturation, treated with protease at pH3W8 and 35W60°C. Solid components are separated from the treated cockscomb by centrifugal separation, etc,; cetyl pyridinium chloride is added to the filtrate; and the cetyl pyridinium chloride is separated from the precipitate leaving hyaluronic acid. The residue is extracted with an aqueous solution of a neutral salt (0.02W1.OM, pH5W8) such as sodium chloride, magnesium chloride, etc. to obtain chondroitin sulfuric acid. The extraction residue is used as a low material of the production of acid-soluble collagen.
