Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a reverse osmotic membrane high in water-permeablity, excellent in chemicals resistance, acid resistance, alkali resistance, by irradiation of plasma on porous, hollow fiber made of acrylonitrile series polymer so as to form dense cross-linked layer on the surface.
CONSTITUTION: Plasma is irradiated on a porous hollow fiber made of a copolymer of, e.g., vinylacetate and polyacrylonitrile or AN contg. acrylonitrile (AN) not less than 40 mol.%, the hollow fiber having a bubble point not lower than 10kg/cm2, and permeating-water flow rate not lower than 1l/m2/hr at a press. 10 kg/cm2. The plasma irradiation is carried out by introduction of plasma generated by, e.g., glow discharge, and by applying a voltage 0.5W5 KV across electrodes 3, 4 by means of a neon transformer 2. Irradiation of this plasma on the porous hollow fiber causes to cross-link near-surface layer only, or to block holes to form dense layer, producing desired reverse osmotic membrane made of AN-series-polymer hollow fiber.
