Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the quality of calendered webs and calendering efficiency, by means of a supercalender device comprising combinations of metallic rolls having specific surface hardnesses and roughnesses.
CONSTITUTION: Metallic rolls are made by plating Zn, Cu, Cr, Ni, etc. on canbon steel or hard cenmic cylindrical bodies to form surface layers about 2mm thick having a Vickers hardness of 450W1300 degrees, and by grinding and buffing the plated surfaces to give a surface roughness ≤ 0.05μ (H max). The hollow intermediate rolls 13, 14 and 15, through which hot steam or cooling water can be passed, are provided between the top and bottom rolls 12 and 16 to come into contact with one another under a given pressure, thus forming a supercalender device. The web W is put around the peripheries of the rolls 12W16 snakily, then calendered with the rolls 12W15 rotated counterclockwise or clockwise by the counterclockwise turning force applied to the bottom roll 16.
