Abstract

PURPOSE: To achieve the stabilization of transmission performance and make possible double transmission by forming the optical fiber in the double construction wherein an optical fiber is internally provided in the core having been removed of the central part which becomes of anomalous refractive indices.
CONSTITUTION: The central part of the core 9 of a wide band GI optical fiber 7 formed by a clad 8 and a core 9 which becomes of anomalous refractive indices owing to its defective heterogeneity is removed. If an SM optical fiber 10 formed by a clad layer 11 of a thickness (t) and a core 12 of a radius S is internally provided in the removed central part and the conditions of the formula (5) are satisfied, then the transmission loss owing to leaking of light out to the layer 11 may be reduced and the light transmitted in th core 12, thus this together with the core 10 which has been removed of the defective central part cause the double transmission of light to be accomplished stably. Here, nc: refractive indices of the clads 8, 11; ns: the refractive index of the core 12.
