Abstract

PURPOSE: To prvide a magnetic recording tape with minimized generation of noise, jitter, etc., obtd. by subjecting a Mn-Cu alloy of a specific composn. to soln. heat treatment and aging under specific conditions; rolling the alloy; and covering the resulting tape-shaped support with a magnetic layer.
CONSTITUTION: An alloy material contg. Mn;50W70wt% and Cu; 30W50 wt% as main components and trace amts. of other various components is subjected to soln. heat treatment in which the alloy is heated at about 700W950, pref. 800W 850°C for about 1W4, pref. 2W3 hr and cooled. Next the alloy is held at 300W 500°C for 1W4 hr and cooled to carry out aging. The alloy thus treated is then rolled to a tape-shaped support of below 10μ thikness. By covering the support with a magnetic layer, a magnetic tape with minimized generation of noise and jitter is obtd. The layer is covered by coating, vapor deposition, plating, etc.
