Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate a multi-component substance into the components by adsorption with high separation efficiency, by packing a bed with an adsorbent consisting of almost perfectly spherical zeolite particles having a specific average particle size and narrow particle size distribution.
CONSTITUTION: A bed is packed with an adsorbent consisting of zeolite particles having an average particle size of 20W300μ, a standard deviation of particle size distribution below 0.10 time of the average particle size, and a sphericity index of 1.00W1.25. A substance contg. components having a cross separation factor of 0.05W20 (≠1) among them, or a substance contg. arom. hydrocarbon cpds. or their isomers is supplied to a separation tower provided with the above adsorbent-packed bed together with a displacing agent to develop a substance adsorbing zone on the bed. Thus, the desired components are separated from the vicinity of the interface between the zone and a displacing agent zone.
