Abstract

PURPOSE: To easily recover magnetic powder activated carbon which has adsorbed contaminants from water to be treated and regenerate the carbon by providing a magnetic separator using magnetic separation elements and an induction heater to a water treatment apparatus using the carbon as a treating medium.
CONSTITUTION: Magnetic separation elements, pref. steel balls are packed into filter vessel 14 of magnetic separator 10 from hopper 40 and magnetized by supplying an electric current to DC coils 28. Next valves 18, 22 are opened to feed water contg. magnetic powder activated carbon to be treated to vessel 14 from inflow pipe 20. All of the powder is adsorbed onto the surface of the balls. Valve 50 is then opened to drop the carbon-adsorbed balls into hopper 58 of induction heating type regenerator 12. During transfer with screw conveyer 66, adsorbed contaminants are burnt by induction heating and the balls are demagnetized with an AC magnetic field. The carbon separated by the friction of the balls with each other is dropped into recovering vessel 72.
