Abstract

PURPOSE: The bulk polymerization is conducted after the rubber phase of an elastomer is dissolved in vinyl monomers to form the disperse phase, the bulk polymerization product is incorporated with water and agitation is continuedvto obtain said rubber-modified vinyl resin with good coloring property and high impact strength.
CONSTITUTION: In the production of rubber-modified vinyl resins where a rubber elastomer is dissolved in vinyl monomers and the bulk polymerization under stirring and successive suspension polymerization are effected, after the rubber phase forms disperse phase during the bulk polymerization, water in such an amount that the water does not form continuous phase is added to the bulk polymerization product and stirring is continued for more than 15 min to form water-containing bulk polymer. The addition of water during the bulk polymerization changes microscopically the state of the bulk polymerization mixtur, thus changing the optical properties of the disperse phase of rubber elastomer that is being formed, especially suppressing the light interference
