Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent molten damage at tuere and also the rise of hydrogen content during steel melting by blasting CO2 as tuere cooling agent from the external tube of a double tube tuere during the smelting of steel in a pure oxygen bottom blast converter. CONSTITUTION:In the oxygen blast smelting of steel in a pure oxygen bottom blast converter, CO2 gas is blasted from the external tube of a double tube tuere, together with oxygen from the internal tube. The tuere is cooled by an endothermic reaction occurred upon the dissociation of CO2 into CO and O2 at high temperatures, which prevents the tuere from damage by melting. And, this method uses no hydrocarbon gas as in the conventional cases and thus no solution of hydrogen takes place, suppressing the increase in hydrogen content in smelted steel. Thus, the need for dehydrogenation treatment can be eliminated.
