PURPOSE:To extract the strip of high temperature at the prescribed temperature higher than the normal temperature with the coolers of the desired number having a specified mechanism with which steam and water or gas are made ON-OFF free. CONSTITUTION:For example, the strip S which has passed through the first and the second preheating zones of the continuous annealing line, passes through the quick heating zone 4, the soaking zone 5 and the first cooling zone 6 adopting the device of the present invention. In this zone 6, the cooling sets 30, e.g. 42 sets, are arranged in the direction of progress of the strip S. The liquid fed through the liquid flow rate control valve 18 and the ON-OFF control valve 19 is mixed with the gas fed through the gas flow rate control valve 15 and the ON-OFF control valve 16 in the mixer 13 and is ejected to the surface of the strip 10 of high temperature through the slits 12. At these cooling sets, the selective use of cooling mediums is possible with the operation of the valves 16 and 19 as the strong cooling (gas and water are used), weak cooling (gas is used) and spontaneous cooling (both of the valves are OFF). The cooling sets 30 are equipped to both sides of the strip 10 of high temperature but are showed only at one side in the figure. With this method, the control of the end point of the disired cooling above the normal temperature which has been formerly extremely difficult, becomes easy.
