Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare easily a graft copolymer useful as a molding resin or an impact modifier and having excellent weather resistance and impact resistance, by crosslinding an ethylene-vinyl ester copolymer with an organic peroxide, and thereafter graft-copolymerizing the product with a specific monomer.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous dispersion of an ethylene-vinyl ester copolymer (EVA) containing 0.05W10 wt% of an organic peroxide compounded with a suspending agent, and moderately crosslinked easily by heating above the decomposition temperature of the peroxide. The crosslinked polymer is graft-copolymerized with one or more monomers selected from alkyl methacrylates, aromatic vinyl compounds and vinyl cyanide to provide a graft copolymer.
EFFECT: A weather-resistant EVA is easily crosslinked, and hard monomers can be graft-copolymerized in high yield
