Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable directional patterns of arbitrary positions to be readily obtained by obtaining the directional patterns from the electric signals obtainable from a plurality of the reflectors provided in the positions where distances from ultrasonic wave trasmitting-receiving face differ.
CONSTITUTION: The grip part of an ultrasonic probe 27 is held in place in the clamp part 17 of a holder and is so fixed that the center of the transmitting-receiving face 26 of an ultrasonic vibrator 25 aligns to the line connecting the turning centers 13a, 13b of the holder. Water is put until the water level comes above this position. Next, with the probe 27 being turned little by little, its rotating angles are detected and the transmission and reception of ultrasonic waves are performed, thence the intensities of the reflected waves from linear reflectors 20a, 20b, 20c are measured with respect to each position.
