Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a powerful insecticide in a high yield, by adding a specific catalyst and, preferably a seed crystal, to a solution of α-cyano-3-phenoxybenzyl (S)-2-(4-chlorophenyl)-isovalerate, followed by isomerization and crystallization.
CONSTITUTION: A soluble basic catalyst such as an organic amine, e.g. triethylamine, etc. is added to a solution of (R,S)-α-cyano-3-phenoxybenzyl(S)-2-(4- chlorophenyl)-isovalerate in methanol with or without addition of a seed crytal of any one of isomers. The isovalerate is isomerized and crystallized to give (S)-α- cyano- 3-phenoxybenzyl(S)-2-(4-chlorophenyl)-isovalerate having a powerful insecticidal action.
EFFECT: Simultaneous isomerization and crystallization can achieve high yields lasily
