Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a polymer useful as flocculant, coating, etc., and having a high molecular weight and excellent cationic property, by reacting a specific amine and amide with an aldehyde, further adding a radical generator or its mixture with an acrylic compound to the product.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A polyamine compound, e.g. piperazine, etc., and (B) an acrylamide compound, e.g. acrylamide, etc., are condensed with (C) an aldehyde compound, e.g. formaldehyde, etc., in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. sulfuric acid, etc., wherein the preferable amount of (A) is 5W20 mole on the basis of 1 mole of (B), and the preferable amount of (C) is 1.5W2.5 mole on the basis of 1 mole of (A)+(B). Subsequently a radical generator (e.g. potassium persulfate, etc.) or its mixture with an acrylamide compound and/or an aminoalkyl acrylate compound (e.g. dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate, etc.), is added and polymerized. The reaction product is used as an aqueous (suspension) solution or powder after separation
