PURPOSE:To enable an automatic equalizer of an automatic equalizer of a decision feedback type for the inter-code interference removement of a data transmitter- receiver to return to the normal convergence state, by automatically detecting the artificial convergence state. CONSTITUTION:Signal arriving at the automatic equalizer from terminal 1 are delayed by shift register 2 of L stages, weighted by L tap attenuators 3-1 to 6-L, and summed by adder 4. The absolute value of the tap gain of M-the tap attenuator 3-M is calculated by arithmetic unit 9 and compared with a constant value stored in memory element 11 by comparator 10, so that when this tap gain is below the constant value, a pulse will be outputted via line 12. When this pulse appears, switches 27 and 28 are colsed to send out pulse signals via lines 7 and 22, thereby setting all of tap gains to preset values respectively. After this setting, setting will not occur continuously.
