Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the efficiency of a centrifugal impeller, by extending the center and side plates on a disc outside the outer diameter of vanes and fitting radial ribs to the extended center and side plates for giving kinetic energy to the boundary layer.
CONSTITUTION: The fluid flow is strained to the circumferential and width direction at the vane outlet 4a of an impeller 1, but the circumferantial strain disappears due to the mingling immediate downstream the vane outlet 4a and the circumferential flow is evenly distributed at the impeller outlet 1a. As for the width direction, since the kinetic energy is given by means of ribs 10 to the fluid with low flow rate on the side of side plate 3 and to the fluid in the boundary layer on the side of center plate 2, the flow is also evenly distributed being agitated. Consequently the fluid flow at the impeller outlet 1a ia quite even. Since the flow is even at the outlet of vaned diffuser 7, the flow angle concides with the vane angle along entire length of the width direction, thus almost eliminating the incident loss in terms of the theoretical air flow.
