Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable core rod to be readily removed without impairing the quality of the resultant fabricated product by cylindrically depositing sooted matter composed of glass raw materials on the outside circumference of the core rod and heating the core rod to allow the sooted matter to sinter and shrink. CONSTITUTION:Glass raw material powder is deposited in a sooted state by a CVD method on the outside circumference of a ocre rod 1 composed of thermally and chemically stable graphite. The core rod 1 is electro-heated by a power source 2 and the deposit 4 is heat treated from its inside circumference side to the outside circumference side. The deposit 4 becomes gradually sintered and causes volume reduc tion, thus its inside circumference shrinks in an expanding direction, whereby a minute free spacig is formed between the core rod 1 and the sintered deposit 4. When the free spacing is formed in this way, the core rod 1 is pulled off from the deposit 4.
