Abstract

PURPOSE: To minimize uneven melting of the surface layer of frozen sludge by filling pipe bodies for freezing and melting placed horizontally a heated medium while the level of the medium being kept horizontal.
CONSTITUTION: With the actuation of valves 19a-19j and pumps 22 and 23, a thermal medium is circulated through the system. Thereupon, the medium cooled by an evaporator 11a flows into a first chamber 3a to freeze raw sludge in a space enclosed thereby, while the medium heated by a condenser 11b flows into a chamber 3b to melt frozen sludge in a space enclosed thereby. Then, with the actuation of 19a-19j, the heated medium in a tank 21 flows into the chamber 3a to melt the surface layer of the frozen sludge, and with the actuation of a pump 10, another raw sludge is pressed therein to evacuate the frozen sludge. All pipe bodies are placed horizontally to keep the level of the heated medium in the chamber 3a horizontal, while the both ends of the chamber 3a are so provided with chambers 3c and 3d respectively as to allow the heated medium alone to flow thereinto against the cooled medium, thus checking uneven melting of the surface of the frozen sludge
