Abstract
PURPOSE:In deoxidation and desulfurization processes wherein a carrier gas mixed with a smelting powder additive is blowing into a molten pig iron or steel, the carrier gas is preheated so as to effectively prevent blocking of lance holes and to improve desulfurization efficiency while using a lesser gas quantity. CONSTITUTION:A carrier gas is preferably heated to 200 to 800 deg.C while passsing from an inlet 8 through a heat exchanger 7. A specified quantity of additive is added to the carrier gas from an additive reservoir 12 through a control valve 13. Then, the high temperature aditive-suspending carrier gas passes through a pipe 14 into a lance 4 dipped in a ladle 1. The suspension bubbles consisting of powder additive and carrier gas are injected from the lance terminal 6 into molten components, where they are reacted with each other and cause agitation to promote floating and separation of deoxidation and desulfurization products.
