Abstract

PURPOSE: To decrease sulfuric acid consumption, by cooling high-temp. exhaust combustion gas contg. SOx in a cooling tower with spray of aq. soln. of NaOH or Na2CO3, and by feeding the produced Na salt particles dissolved in water to a wet desulfurizing unit for exhaust gas so as to utilize the particles for desulfurization.
CONSTITUTION: Exhaust gas from a furnace 1 is cooled to 200W350°C with spray of aq. soln. 4 of NaOH or Na2CO3 blown into the outlet of a cooling tower 3. Resulting particles are finelly divided in a reactor 12 equipped with lameller packings 13 to improve desulfurization ratio. Finely divided powder collected by a dust collector 14 is dissolved in water 18 in a crude Glauber's salt storage tank 17 together with the fine powder obtained in the reactor 12. Collected powder contains principally Na2SO4 with Na2SO3 as a minor component, further contg. 10W25% Na2CO3. The aq. soln. may be utilized for the spray of the cooling tower 3 by returning to a storage tank 8 as a dotted line 19 shows, however it is used as absorbing liq. for wet desulfurization process more profitably in respect to the desulfurization ratio. After used for desulfurization, it is neutralized with sulfuric acid, purified and recovered as Glauber's salt, with reduced consumption of the neutralizing sulfuric acid.
