USE: An intermediate of 7-alkylidenenorcomphor useful as perfume.
PREPARATION: 6-Alkylfluvene of formula is reacted with the equimolar quantity of 2-chloroacrylontrile or an excess amount of it serving as the solvent at 0W50°C to form 2-chloro-2-cyano-7-alkylidenebicyclo[2,2,1]-5-heptene of formula III. Then the compound is hydrogenated in the presence of 1W3WT% of palladium on the basis of the compound of formula III at 0W50°C, preferably room temperature to prepare the objective compound of formulaI.
