Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance sensitivity and contrast, to reduce minimum density, and to prevent secondary reversal, by forming the central parts of silvar halide grains causing fog, under the conditions of high silver concentration and below 4 in pH.
CONSTITUTION: Aqueous solutions of water-soluble silver salt and water-soluble alkali halide are each added to an aqueous solution of protective colloid, such as gelatin, and mixed in this. The silver concentration of the mixture is kept within 10-1 and 10-6, preferably within about 10-2 and 10-4 mole/liter, and the pH value of the mixture is kept within 4 and about 1 till addition of 1/20 of the total silver amount is finished. After that, the concentration of Ag+ is kept below 10-6 mole/ liter, and the pH value is kept below 7.5 to form silver halide. Silver iodobromide prepared, preferably containing silver iodide below 10 mole% is washed and then, fogged. This processing permits positive images of improved dot quality to be formed.
