Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture a metal mirror blank which is free of the exfoliation of reflecting material and also has high durability by welding a reflecting material on a base plate under vacuum by the irradiation of a laser beam to melt the weld portion of base plate and also a laser beam to dissolve the reflecting material. CONSTITUTION:After vacuumizing the vacuum container 4, the laser beam from the laser generator 1 is split by the reflecting mirrors 2 and 3 and then focused by the respective condensers 6 and 7. Because the reflecting material 11 is sent out at the focusing point of the beam L1 by the delivery mechanism 12, the material 11 is melted and drops onto the weld portion 10a of the base plate 10, and also because the beam L2 is positioned its focusing point by being kept apart slightly from the point on the base plate 10 by the defocusing device 8, the weld portion 10a is slightly melted. Thus, the material 11 is welded to the weld portion 10a and thereby the base plate 10 and the material 11 forms an alloy to form the high purity material 11 surface as the upper blank surface. The base plate 10 is moved by the driving device 9 and metal mirror blank is formed on the base plate 10.
