Abstract

PURPOSE: A steel whose welding heat-influenced portion has improved creep-fracture ductility, manufactured by adding proper amounts of S, O, Ca, Mg, and REM to steel or by controlling them.
CONSTITUTION: The composition of the steel is regulated to less than 0.20% C, 0.10 to 0.80% Si, 0.30 to 1.50% Mn, 0.25 to 1.00% Mo, less than 0.05% one or two or more of Mg, Ca, and REM, less than 0.0020% O, less than 0.0030% S, or an amount of S so that the relationship between the austenite crystal grain number n of the welding heat-influenced portion's coarse grain and the amount of S meets the formula (n-2)-log S%≥3.5. The steel is most suitable for steels used in the fields of steam power plants, oil refining, peterochemical industry, etc., reguiring high creep-fracture ductility.
